Person in Box

So these are a couple of photos I did in college:

I had built a box in proportion to the 35mm photo frame, covered it in black velvet, had a backlit white background and shot Joanne wearing a black leotard in various positions in it.

I thought, actually, I still think they are pretty cool.

Anyway, a few years ago I was thinking about them and decided it would be fun to apply the idea to painting. And so the portraits in a box was born.
